Samantabhadra is a prominent bodhisattva in Mahayana Buddhism, known for embodying the practice and meditation of all Buddhas. He is often associated with the virtues of practice, including vows, conduct, and dedication. Samantabhadra is particularly venerated in East Asian Buddhism, including Chinese, Japanese, and Korean traditions.

In iconography, Samantabhadra is typically depicted seated on a white elephant, which symbolizes strength, patience, and wisdom. The elephant often has six tusks, representing the overcoming of attachment to the six senses. Samantabhadra is usually shown in a serene and composed manner, often holding a lotus or other symbolic objects.

Samantabhadra is closely associated with the Avatamsaka Sutra (Flower Garland Sutra), where he makes ten great vows that outline the path of a bodhisattva, emphasizing altruistic practice and dedication to the enlightenment of all beings. These vows include honoring all Buddhas, making extensive offerings, confessing faults, rejoicing in the merits of others, requesting the turning of the Dharma wheel, and dedicating merit to all beings.  In Tibetan Buddhism, Samantabhadra is also considered a primordial Buddha (Adi-Buddha) in the Nyingma school, where he is depicted in union with his consort, Samantabhadri. This representation symbolizes the union of wisdom and compassion.
